KASHUBIAN GLASS PAINTING

12/06/2022

The multicultural eco-workshop for adults and children, which took place as part of the ‘Kashubian Day’ in the garden of the Ethnography Department of the National Museum in Gdańsk. The workshop was open, with no registration, all you had to do was come between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to the Summer Ethnographic Fair.

During the Kashubian glass painting workshop, we became familiar with and applied the traditional technique of making this type of painting. For our work, we used patterns with traditional representations, colourfully and painterly filled the space of the composition, and designed our own motifs. We also learnt about the Kashubian tradition of painting pictures on glass and the function (among other things, decorative and religious ones) that these representations had in the interiors of old chambers.

The workshop was led by folk artist Alicja Serkowska.

The participants could take home the results of their work – Kashubian glass paintings.
