The second concert comprised three chamber music works.

Edward Grieg is mainly famous for his orchestra works, songs, and a number of short piano pieces. Chamber music works represent only a minor part of his work. Andate con moto was probably intended as a part of a larger piano trio which Edvard Grieg started composing in 1878. However, the trio was never completed and therefore, Andante con moto had not been published until 1978 when a decision was made to catalog all Grieg’s works.

Playfulness by Elend Skomsvoll was composed especially for the International Chamber Music Competition in Trondheim. In 2019, Arto Piano Trio was among the 10 music groups selected from all over the world and qualified for that prestigious competition. This is an extremely interesting and diverse miniature, offering the artists a lot of space for presenting their talents. On one hand, there is a lot of instruction, whereas on the other hand there is a lot of freedom and discretion involved in the interpretation.

Elend Skomsvoll masterfully operates the sound colors which, combined with the diverse texture, interesting structure of accents and variable agogics, brings various images to the mind and encourages an artistic search process.

Tales from the Enchanted Forest is inspired by the fairytales invented by Henning Kraggerund, which he was telling his children as bedtimes stories: “In this fantasy world there are good, evil and strange Wizards, talking squirrels, a magical forest with a king and queen in a gold and silver castle and many small talking magical creatures – some of which who are helping my children, and some, which are making trouble or are there just for fun. My children might also have an important role to play later in this world, so I tell them that these fairy tales are also preparations for later on. The musical translation of the first things from this world has been very rewarding for me so I might tell other tales later on.”
