The Ethnosensual: music therapy workshop with Sonora Sound Tube

2022-07-24

Art therapy workshops entitled “Music Therapy with Sonora Sound Tube” within “The Ethnosensual” cycle. The workshops were open to every interested participant of any age. This event was adapted to persons with disabilities and special needs.

Sonora Sound Tube is an innovative instrument with a relaxation effect, designed for sound therapy. It is the only instrument you can actually enter!

A person inside the Sonora can feel vibrations physiologically as a deep, pleasant massage. This massage, combined with gentle music, has a soothing effect on both physical and mental levels.

The Sonora vibration therapy may be effective in eliminating muscle tension, improvement of blood circulation, alleviation of pain and fear. It may also be used for mood modulation, personal development and keeping mind-and-body balance. Sonora naturally restores the harmony of the body and the mind.

“Breathing – Music – Movement” relaxation workshops

The workshops were based on a mindfulness technique combining three different spheres: the mind, the soul and the body. During the workshop, we focused on mindful movement, breathing and listening to music as a representation of the particular spheres. Mindful movement helps to improve awareness of the body and its limits as an introduction to mindful being with the breath. Focus on breathing lets you move your attention to the inside and observe what is going on inside your mind, so as to squeeze the chaos and replace it with peace of mind and clarity of thought. Finally, these two areas were integrated through getting the participants into a state of deep relaxation with the Sonora music during a relaxation concert preceded by guided visualization. Relaxation of the body together with relaxation of the mind were an opportunity for the participants to reduce fear, pain and unnecessary stress in their bodies, and to start feeling better. Such state has a positive effect on the mental-physical balance, yielding a prominent, immediate effect. Those taking part in the evening workshop could continue with their weekend in the perspective of mindfulness and carry the relaxation experience forward to more areas of their lives.

Individual sessions

Participants of individual relaxation sessions inside the Sonora Sound Tube had an opportunity to experience the effect Sonora has on the body and the mind. Experiencing sound vibrations with the new tone of the instrument brings positive aesthetic impressions and opens you up to new bodily experiences. Participants learn to be aware of their body on a new level as they are able to discover its waving along with the sound. Learning to relax your mind and to direct your attention to the inside is an enriching experience and a very useful skill as well. Some positive effects that the participants had a chance to experience even after short (20-30 minutes) relaxation sessions were the reduction of tension and mood improvement.

Workshop leaders:

Katarzyna Paluszkiewicz – founder and coordinator of the Sonora project, a musician and violin maker by education, a licensed music therapist.

Przemysław Suberlak – member of the Sonora group since 2019.
